Who is this for? (plus Text and Layout updates)

First, quickly, a progress update. HyperCity is now 75% of the way to completion. Almost all of the text is in layout. There is an example of play to write from scratch. There is an index to be made. And some other smaller tasks. But the wait should not be long now! When the exmaple of play is written, I'll announce a date.

But more than that, I want to talk about a challenge when writing this book: Who is it for?

The playtest was clearly a document only understandable to people who played Ironsworn. With this book, I wanted it to be useful to someone who had never played that game. So now, the book has to cover the basics and explain the moves and so on. This is a lot of text. The Ironsworn SRD is almost 200 pages. Even though I simplify it, that's most of my 64 pages.  I think Shawn Tomkin did an excellent job with Ironsworn's text so the SRD is a really generous gift and great help to hackers. A lot of my 64 pages use words from that SRD. In the end, I hope it works. It definitely can't be your first RPG but if you've played PbtA or even just watched an AP, you'll probably be able to pick up this book and make sense of it.

To make it easier for people who have read Ironsworn, I'm adding a small section right on the inside cover which says which areas you need to read to update yourself on this game. In the end, it's not that much. This game makes a very small contribution to the base game: Burning Questions, a new setting creation method, and moves that integrate the "solo, together" mode through SeekerNet. It's a small contribution but one that I'm happy with.
